DIY Embellished Mules
It all started after falling down an Etsy rabbit hole, where I discovered an assortment of beaded Indian appliqués. They were stunning and surprisingly inexpensive. And they reminded me of the intricate and textural details found on Oscar de la Renta‘s multiple iterations of embellished slides. So obviously, the only reasonable place to position these beauties was on a recently purchased pair of flat mules. Honestly, marrying patches and shoes has become a legitimate addiction . . .

You’ll need:
- flat mule slides (mine are from here and here)
- embellished appliques
- Fabric Fusion
- foam brush
- popsicle stick or toothpick
- washi or masking tape
Arlene’s Fabric Fusion or any other good quality fabric adhesive is what you’ll want to use to apply the beaded appliqués to the shoes. You could potentially use an iron on transfer but the beading would be difficult to iron over. The key here is to give the appliqué time to dry and set. Spread a good amount of glue over the backside of the appliqué.
Place the appliqué onto the shoe. Use a popsicle stick or toothpick to more precisely apply more glue around the edges.
Hold the appliqué down with washi or masking tape and allow to dry from 2-4 hours.
Remove the tape and your embellished mules are ready to wear.
